“There is no way to put these programs into a textbook or website and get the sense of what it’s like to be there. This is an experience you cannot get anywhere else. No one can teach you about yourself; sometimes it takes going out to explore the world to learn how you fit into it and how you differ from it all. ”
-Katherine Lazo: Italy, The Piazza & the Nature of Things

ArtCenter offers a multitude of domestic and international programs. These include faculty-led programs run by ArtCenter, direct exchange programs with premier partner institutions, and approved third-party provider programs for an individualized program experience.

As you review various program options, take some time to consider factors like academic focus, location, internship possibilities, living arrangements, and your goals for the study away experience. Examples of questions to consider are:

  • What and with whom do you want to study?

  • Where and when do you want to go?

  • What type of living situation is best for you?

  • How much structure and support do you prefer?

  • What is your budget?

  • faculty-led programs

Designed specifically for ArtCenter students, these programs are sponsored by an ArtCenter department(s) and led by ArtCenter faculty. The programs can be short or long-term experiences and are often open to students from all majors. Students earn 3-18 credits for these programs and are away from 1-14 weeks. Students maintain their financial aid package, pay ArtCenter tuition, and pay a program fee that ranges in cost.

  • exchange programs

ArtCenter has reciprocal exchanges with a number of the world’s most respected art and design schools. Exchange programs allow students to enroll in university classes for a term at a partner institution alongside host-country and international students. ArtCenter currently has reciprocal agreements with 12 universities around the globe. Students maintain their financial aid package, pay ArtCenter tuition, and pay for their housing out-of-pocket.

  • Individualized Programs

If you cannot find an ArtCenter program that fits your needs, you should explore an individualized program. These programs provide countless domestic and international opportunities and offer many diverse options for study, including virtual programs. There are options to meet a range of budgets, credit needs, and travel time frames. A few recommended programs are listed in the Program Search Function, but many more are available. Students take a leave of absence for the term*, maintain state and federal aid but no ArtCenter aid, pay ArtCenter a $200 Administrative Fee, and pay all other program costs directly to the program.

*International students should confirm with international@artcenter.edu about how a term off will impact your visa status.
