ELIGIBILITY

1) Must have at least three terms completed at the time of application

2) Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

3) Must have at least one term remaining upon return to ArtCenter

4) Must not be on academic or disciplinary probation at the time of the application

5) Must satisfy all course prerequisites.

6) Must not have participated in another individualized program

PROGRAM FEE

All program fees will be paid to CET Academic Programs and not through ArtCenter tuition. If you wish to receive transfer credit (credit that counts toward your graduation but not toward your grade point average) and federal financial aid for your term abroad, you must complete ArtCenter’s Individualized Study Abroad Authorization process and pay a $200 processing fee.

Costs that you will be responsible for that are NOT included in the program fee include: a passport ($135), a visa (if required), round-trip airfare LAX-Osaka (~$800-$1200), and daily personal expenses—food, toiletries, supplies, souvenirs, cell phone, etc. ($50-$60 / day).

FINANCIAL AID

On Individualized Programs, students can utilize their state and federal aid but ArtCenter aid is not available. Oftentimes, program fees include room and board and can end up costing less than a term at ArtCenter, even after you account for the loss of ArtCenter aid. ESA staff can help you do a cost comparison to find the right program for your budget!

1) Review CET's Japan program page, including the eligibility criteria and application deadline in the "How to Apply" section.

2) Complete CET's Application form.

Upon review of the Application Form, a CET advisor will email you to confirm your submission.

3) By Friday of Week 6, the term prior to your study abroad term, complete the brief ArtCenter Individualized Study Away Application.

4) At least one week prior to CET’s application deadline, email us at studyaway@artcenter.edu to confirm you still plan to apply AND submit your study abroad office recommendation request through CET’s portal. For the recommendation request, list Kyrie Sanchinelli-Salazar, studyaway@artcenter.edu.

5) Complete all remaining requirements by the application deadline.

6) Once accepted by CET, forward the official acceptance confirmation to studyaway@artcenter.edu. Follow any instructions from CET on confirming your participation. Additionally, log in to your Study Away application to change your status to "committed" and pay the 200 non-refundable deposit/administrative fee within one week of your acceptance.

7) Complete remaining ArtCenter paperwork by Monday of Week 12, the term prior to your study abroad term.

ABOUT CET JAPAN PROGRAMS

Third-party provider CET offers a unique program in Osaka, Japan. CET Japan offers Intensive Japanese language for all language levels and a handful of elective courses in English . This program now includes a CET elective in English, Character Design in a Japanese Context (3 credits). More studio arts courses will likely be added soon.

With an intensive language curriculum, commitment to a language pledge, and a housing setup aimed at accelerating your adjustment to life in Japan, your semester in Osaka is full of creativity and language progress.

FALL AND SPRING SEMESTER COURSES

• CET Japan Courses

  Students take one comprehensive Japanese language course for 12 credits, then choose CET or OGU electives to meet 14 to 18 recommended credits.

  CET ELECTIVES

  OS/ARTS 250 Character Design This 3-credit elective is taught exclusively for CET students in Japanese with English interpretation.

  DIRECT-ENROLL ELECTIVES AT OGU

  Select 1 to 3 direct-enroll electives at Osaka Gakuin University for a minimum of 14 total credits (including language). Electives come in many shapes and sizes, and are taught in Japanese or English. Options differ each term and are either 1.5 or 3 credits each. Some past courses have included:

  Japanese Culture & Society
  The Power of Japanese Pop Culture

SCHOLARSHIPS
