ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

CENTRO is recognized as the leading university for design, film and media in Mexico. It is the first independent design university started in North America in the 21st Century, and its unique interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial curriculum is redefining the teaching of design. Founded in 2004, the mission of CENTRO is to offer world-class educational programs. CENTRO is more than a design university; it is a dynamic platform for research, exhibitions, conferences, workshops and collaborative projects centered around design, film and media.

CENTRO generates projects and experiences that foster permanent relationships with industry, opinion leaders, and experts in many creative, entrepreneurial, cultural and educational fields.

Projects at CENTRO provide energy and inspiration to the students and others involved. They have positioned the school as a far-reaching creative force within and beyond Mexico's borders.

A key goal of CENTRO's projects is to promote unexpected, yet essential encounters that connect professionals from different disciplines and promote creative action in every sphere.

For more information about the school, please visit the CENTRO website. In particular, take a look at the courses available in the department Comunicacion Visual. Interested students may wish to download the international student handbook from CENTRO’s international student webpage.

Note that the language of instruction is Spanish. Students must have a high intermediate to advanced level of Spanish for this program.

Check out the recording of the February 16 info session or hear directly from a previous exchange student.

ABOUT MEXICO CITY, MEXICO:

Mexico City is truly one of the world’s great cultural centers. The city sits atop the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec empire founded in 1325 AD, which was once located in the middle of Lake Texcoco on an island connected to the mainland by four causeways. No singular description can fully encompass the sprawling metropolis, which is at once deeply traditional and stunningly avant-garde, cosmopolitan and provincial, dizzyingly fast-paced at one moment and deliciously leisurely the next. A city of great wealth and great poverty, often co-existing side by side, Mexico City appears at once contradictory and harmonious, and diversity abounds in the experiences– cultural, historical, and social– that it has to offer. World-class art, shopping and cuisine are to be found throughout the city, while on nearly every corner travelers encounter historical sites and structures offering windows into the city’s rich and complex past.
