ABOUT CET FILM PRODUCTION AT FAMU

Study in the city that is home to filmmakers such as Miloš Forman, Agnieszka Holland, Emir Kusturica, and Jan Svěrák. CET’s Film Production process focuses on both the process of filmmaking and the medium of analog film itself (16mm or 35mm). Study away students work in small groups to see their short film through each stage—from pitching to filming, and even color grading in post-production—while working alongside professionals and under the guidance of an experienced mentor at Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), one of the top film schools in Central Europe. For full program information, visit the CET Program Page. Note that this is an Individualized Program option and not an ArtCenter program. You can learn more about that process here.

FALL AND SPRING SEMESTER COURSES

Students on this program take two core courses in film production, one language class, and enroll in one to three FAMU International electives for 14 to 18 total credits. The Czech language class is taught by CET, while the remainder of the curriculum is taught by FAMU faculty who are working professionals. Students will work with their ArtCenter departmental advisor to transfer coursework back to ArtCenter and receive credit towards graduation.

  • Students take two courses taught exclusively for CET students by FAMU faculty. FAMU faculty offer mentorship as they guide each group through the process of creating a final film.

    PR/FILM 410 Narrative Film: Pre-Production and Production (130 hours, 6 credits)

    PR/FILM 420 Narrative Film: Post-Production and Final Product (65 hours, 3 credits)

(Note on Terms: Winter is the FALL semester; Summer is the SPRING semester)

  • PR/LANG 101 Beginning Czech Language (3 credits)
This course focuses on the basics of Czech grammar system and vocabulary used in everyday conversational topics. Through exposure to the language, students also learn about Czech holidays, traditions, and habits, and since this course is taught exclusively to FAMU students, students are introduced to well-known Czech filmmakers and their achievements, with special attention is paid to terminology and situations related to film making, photography, and A/V media.

This course is taught intensively during the first week of the fall and spring programs. No other classes are taught during this time. Starting in the second week, Czech language hours are reduced and other classes begin. Throughout the semester, class schedules may be adjusted according to student production schedules.
