ELIGIBILITY

1) Must have at least three terms completed at time of application

2) Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

3) Must have at least one term remaining upon return to ArtCenter

4) Must not be on academic or disciplinary probation at the time of the application

5) Must satisfy all course prerequisites

6) Must not have participated in another individualized program

COST

PROGRAM FEE

Students participating in DIS programs are responsible for a Comprehensive Tuition Fee and a Comprehensive Housing & Student Life Fee. These fees cover the program’s course-integrated study tour, course reading material and textbook rental, a furnished room, local transportation coverage between your courses, housing, and DIS events, group pick-up at airport on Arrival Day and quite a bit more. All program fees will be paid directly to DIS and not to ArtCenter. If you wish to receive transfer credit (credit that counts toward your graduation but not toward your grade point average) and federal financial aid for your term abroad, you must complete ArtCenter’s Individualized Study Abroad Authorization process and pay a $200 processing fee. Besides the processing fee, you will owe no other fees to ArtCenter for your term abroad.

FINANCIAL AID

On Individualized Programs, students can utilize their state and federal aid but ArtCenter aid is not available. Often times, program fees include room and board and can end up costing less than a term at ArtCenter, even after you account for the loss of ArtCenter aid. ESA staff can help you do a cost comparison to find the right program for your budget!

NEXT STEPS

1) Review DIS admission requirements.

2) Complete the DIS Get Started form.

Upon review of your Get Started from, a DIS advisor will email you to confirm your eligibility and invite you to complete a full application.

3) Complete all DIS requirements by the DIS application deadline.

4) By Friday of Week 6, the term prior to your study abroad term, complete the brief ArtCenter Individualized Study Away Application.

5) Once accepted by DIS, forward the official acceptance confirmation to studyaway@artcenter.edu. Follow any instructions from DIS on confirming your participation. Additionally, log in to your Study Away application to change your status to "committed" and pay the 200 non-refundable deposit/administrative fee within one week of your acceptance.

6) Complete remaining ArtCenter paperwork by Monday of Week 12, the term prior to your study abroad term.

Spend a term delving into Scandinavian Design in Copenhagen, Denmark with DIS – Study Abroad in Scandinavia. This program runs 15-week semesters during the Fall and Spring, and intensive, mix-and-match course blocks during the summer:

FALL AND SPRING SEMESTER

A semester at DIS starts by building your own curriculum from a wide array of course offerings. You will start by selecting a core course, which includes two course-integrated study tours around Denmark and greater Europe. Core courses are available in a range of topics and disciplines, but the following are particularly relevant to ArtCenter students:

Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Europe

Interior Architecture Studio

Urban Design Studio

You supplement your core course with 3 or 4 elective courses across 70+ disciplines. Electives include everything from typical lecture courses, to design workshops, to research assistantships, and more. Follow this link to access the DIS course finder and explore your options. SUMMER INTENSIVE

Summer at DIS includes a variety of shorter intensive courses, allowing you to focus in on one topic at a time. ArtCenter students will likely gravitate toward the 7-week design session or the 6-week entrepreneurship bootcamp and practicum, which include course-integrated study tours.

Note: You can earn more credit and extend your stay in Scandinavia by pairing the options above with an academic course from Summer Session 1 (for students participating in the design session) or Summer Session 3 (for students pursuing entrepreneurship, earning a total of 12 credits over 10 weeks in Copenhagen.
