The DIRECT access travel stipend Award (DATSA)

The Direct Access Travel Stipend Award (DATSA) is a planning scholarship to help make study away opportunities more accessible to a broader group of students by easing the financial barrier. The award is intended to assist first-generation college students, students from low-income families, and students with a history of overcoming adversity. Awarded students may use this stipend for a study away program at any time during their degree program at ArtCenter.

ELIGIBILITY APPLICATION EXPECTATIONS UPON RETURN TERMS & CONDITIONS

ELIGIBILITY

1. Must be a current ArtCenter student.

2. Open to U.S. and international students.

3. Must be in good standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5 at the time of application.

4. Must not have been awarded the DATSA previously.

Please note, these funds cannot be applied to the PENSOLE Program.

REQUIREMENTS

Please answer the following questions:

1. Please describe any challenges you have faced personally, financially, or academically that you have had to overcome or are currently working through. How did you meet/have you met these challenges, and what impact do you foresee them having on your study away experience? (200-300 words)

2. How might study away assist you in achieving your goals (academic, professional, personal)? If you have already applied or know you will apply to a particular program, please include details on that program. If you have not decided which program to apply to, your answer can be more general. (200-300 words)

3. If not addressed in previous questions, please describe your financial need and how this scholarship would benefit your plans to study away. For example, do you have a job on or off campus? Is there a gap in the amount of funding you have and the amount you need in order to study away? (100 words)

EXPECTATIONS UPON RETURN

It is expected that upon return from your program, you will share back to the ArtCenter community about your study away experience by participating in future study away fairs and events, including written and visual documentation of your study away experience.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

• Travel stipends may be applied to any exchange or study away program to which you are or will be accepted to during your degree program. Stipends cannot be applied to a program that has already begun or has completed.

• Must receive acceptance into a credit-bearing ArtCenter sponsored study away program or individualized study away program. (Non-eligible programs include: independent studies, international conferences, research travel not required by the course, or sponsored programs that do not have a program fee and/or associated travel costs.)

• Students who withdraw from the program will forfeit stipend money for that program, but may be eligible to apply the funds to a future study away program to which they are accepted. If the stipend has already been disbursed, then the recipient will be required to return the award money to the College.

• Stipends must be applied to a credit-bearing exchange, faculty-led, or individualized study away program for which there is a required program fee and/or airfare costs and/or housing costs involved to participate that are not already being paid for in full by the College or by other College scholarships/grants specifically awarded to that study away program.

• Students may receive the Diversity and Access Travel Stipend Award only one time during their degree program.
